Leaving home early in the morning for a walk with the dog.




A long afternoon nap. I prefer mine in a hammock, outside!!




Rose of Sharon blooms. This is such an invasive plant and so hardy. But when you look closely at the blossoms......gorgeous!




Every year we have a baby bunny living directly in front of the porch. This morning he was having a leisurely breakfast.......with an interested audience, unbeknownst to him! Don't worry, little bunny. Our cats don't go out.




Naked ladies popping up EVERYWHERE! They smell good, too.




Another of our garage doors. Obviously not painted yet. Rustic and summery. I like it.




A view across the porch. Another great place for morning coffee.




The tomatoes are so slow to turn red this year. Only our cherry tomatoes have turned.




And these aren't even ours! They are our neighbor's next door.

Foyer Mirror

I am joining Cindy for Show and Tell Friday!




This old mirror hangs in our foyer. It was given to Mister and me by his parents when we became engaged. At the time it was white and chippy.
Mister isn't a white and chippy kind of guy.....well, maybe he is a LITTLE bit of a fan of some occasional white and chippy now....so he stripped the paint and refinished it beautifully.





I keep my favorite Christmas decoration on the corner. It is a little bird on a spring on a clip. It belonged to my maternal grandparents.

I wish you'd look at me when I talk to you. You know you're glad I did it. You needed your very own kitten. Now that you are a year old, and you're still a berserk crazy yelling creature that seems to have monkey, rat and squirrel in his lineage, it just was time.




You have to admit that he is darling. And I see how gentle you are with him. He wants to play with you a lot. Fortunately for you, he's not as obnoxious and insistent as you were when you were younger, or even, as you are now.





You do like to play with him. Just look at the two of you. And Tony loves to spectate. That way he doesn't have to endure any physical contact with you clowns, just sits back and enjoys the show - except when that long tail of his looks too much like a toy.




By the way, his name is Clarence. Not that you probably care about that.

Wednesday Gratitude

Gratitude?? I have plenty of it. I am most grateful for the constant and unfailing Presence of the Lord in my life. Whatever is going on, whatever troubles are brewing, I can count on Him being there and in control.




I am next most grateful for this wonderful man. My husband of soon-to-be 9 years. He loves me unconditionally and all the time. He is my best friend, encourager, supporter, greatest fan and lover.




This beautiful young woman in the middle is my daughter. Chickie is beautiful, inside and out. She is gifted, funny, compassionate and kind.




Home is where it all comes together for me. I am grateful for the home I grew up in, with wonderful, loving, godly parents. I love to make a warm and welcoming home for my own family. Home is my retreat, where I can relax, and also accomplish. I am grateful for Home.

I've been married, then single parent of a 10 month old, then happily single for years, then married again these last 9 years. Never would have been able to do it without the comfort and strength, faithfulness and lovingkindness of my steadfast and awesome Lord.

Original Light Fixtures

Most of our original light fixtures remain in our 101 year old home. When we had the house re-wired a few years ago, the wonderful electrician cleaned, polished and rewired the fixtures, too!
Here is the light in the foyer, by the front entrance.




This light hangs in the living room.




Mister wanted to replace the shades, so I took one down, cleaned it up and showed him the lovely detail. These shades stay.




Upstairs hall. This fixture was in the dining room when we moved in. It doesn't provide enough light in the dining room, so we moved it upstairs.




The last 3 lights are the sconces from the 3 original bedrooms. The original bathroom has a similar fixture.



This is Chickie's bedroom. (note stuff taped to the wall, purple paint)




So, no big fancy fixtures, but they are lovely, nonetheless. Someday I will have a sparkly chandy to hang in our dining room.

Our home. It's a refuge, retreat, respite and hobby all in one! The morning sun.




Wood trim, columns, porches.

Canning jars for vases. Summer flowers.




Cats!!! They are a passion of mine. I was delighted today to realize that one of my purposes in life is to rescue them, find homes for them, save them and to love and help them. If I was a cat, I would like to belong to me.




Summer and grilling, and fresh produce. Doing stuff in the kitchen. Cooking, baking, even cleaning. Today I canned tomatoes because I was home between working a split shift today. I was so excited!

The first one is nicely maintained.





Look at all the beautifully maintained craftsmanship. It's glorious. Also has a beautiful garage.
