A Gift from the Heart

My mom gave me a wonderful heirloom for Christmas.
She has treasured this sugar bowl and creamer for as long as I can remember. They originally belonged to my mother's father's parents, my great-grandparents.




She included their history. Click on the letter above, and you can read it, too.




The sugar bowl has beautiful lines.

Thanks, Mom, for my new treasure. I have it displayed where I can see it all day, but keep it safe. It is such a special gift that I am going to share it on several parties over the next few days.

Staying Cozy

It's bitterly cold and windy out. So come on in. It's cozy inside!




As you come through the front door, the foyer tree greets you. And the sweet kitchen is just beyond.




The Santa is a treasure I was given last year. He sits in a place of honor next to the new kitchen canisters.




The dining room is decked out for Christmas!




In the master bedroom, the fireplace is warm and cozy. The cats certainly know it!




The bed is cozy and warm. Mister stripped and refinished the bedroom set. It was his wedding gift to me!




A romantic lampshade, a little bling.

Today's Cozy View

Christmas was lovely. Today is, too.

I am enjoying the patina on my thrift store blanket chest, the firelight, the Christmas tree lights. Oh, and a Grace Livingston Hill book.

Today is a day to put on pajamas early, have a sweet and special dinner with (and prepared by) Mister.

To enjoy being home for the holidays.

Oh, Christmas Trees!

Here is our "main" Christmas tree. It's in the family room, and where we put the presents.




I like this tree as well, and in some ways, maybe even more. It's in the foyer, in the original part of our home, looking into the kitchen. Note large gray cat looking directly at you from the kitchen. Didn't know he was there when I took the picture. I am always being watched.




Perhaps this is pushing it a little. I bought this ceramic tree when Chickie was just a little girl. I don't have it on its lit stand this year. Just on the kitchen bookcase. Mister isn't super fond of these trees, so it's a little bit of a compromise.

I hope all of you are having a wonderful week. Busy, but not too busy, time to reflect and be grateful, time to spend with family and friends.

Celebrating

Mister and I will celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary this weekend, and Chickie is home! So I'll take this opportunity to wish each of you a blessed and wonderful weekend!

Will I get caught up on blog reading next week????? I sure will try, but it will be Christmas week!

A Trip to Williamsburg

Mister and I went to Williamsburg, VA a couple of weeks ago. We stayed at The Country Cottage Bed and Breakfast. It is a little home owned by Louis and Geneva Hunt, that is our home away from home each year here.




Since we usually go in December, the Cottage is decked out in all its Christmas splendor.




The living room is so inviting. It has a wood burning fireplace.




Furnished with antiques.




Comfortable to relax in.




Even the quilt speaks the season.




We are so happy to stay here.




The attention to detail is delightful.




The kitchen is fully equipped. Every morning we have a fully stocked basket of cereal, fruit, biscuits, bagels, muffins. The fridge holds jelly, preserves, butter, cream cheese, fruit juice, milk, water, and cold drinks to choose from.




The brick of the back of the fireplace adds character.

Christmas dishes and plates abound.




On to the master bedroom. The recliner is cozy.




The bed is comfy.




A second bedroom??? Why yes!




Lovely.




The bathroom?! Enormous! Even has a full size washer and dryer.




Louis has a state of the art woodshop. He owned a lumber mill millworks before he retired. All of the siding , cabinets, crown molding, chair rails were crafted by Louis. Mister says that Louis' workshop puts Norm Abrams' to shame.




Look at the craftmanship of the wood detail! Beautiful, lovely, character.

So....if ever you travel to Williamsburg, Louis, Geneva and their son, Robert will be most happy to welcome you!

Christmas is Coming!

So. Mister and I decorated the tree today. He had been charged with setting it up this weekend whilst I was at work. He did so.




I realized a few minutes ago that there are many, many vignettes on a Christmas tree.




A daughter is a precious gift. A vintage ornament. A sand dollar.




A cat tangled up in lights. Oh, please, let us not do that in real life!




A couple of ornaments made by Chickie when she was little.




This "clear candy" ornament was a gift for Chickie a couple of years ago. We do love our sugar and sweets!




I bought this ornament 18 years ago to celebrate Chickie's first Christmas.




A favorite tree ornament.




I took all the glass ornaments off of the little tree after Clarence toppled it. Seems he wants to eat the broken shards of glass. What's up with that??
