What's Up

Been busy with working, and lots of other things lately.  But I was so excited, that I thought I would post.
*squeal*

I'll start off with some eye candy, just to lure you in.  'Cause the rest of the pictures aren't going to be pretty.
The tree's up.

Yesterday I came home from work, and a terrible thing happened to the impractical-much-despised-by-me-cream-colored-wall-to-wall carpet in the family room.  I kept trying to clean it, and then, much to my joy, Mister said I could just get rid of it!  So I did, and had things back in place before he got home from work.

I cut around the Christmas tree!  Um...yeah. I did.
Because this is the addition, there is a subfloor, but no lovely wood floor.

Do you like the big Oriental rug I picked up one day while shopping the curb?!
We will have it cleaned and some minor repairs done.  It's a lovely thing.

Now I shall pull staples and tack strips at my convenience.  I did pull the staples up under the Oriental rug before laying it there.
A new floor is not in the budget right now, but boy, do I have some great ideas!  I only will do the perimeter of the room, since the rug will cover the center.

Keeping the tools handy so I can keep chipping away.....

I am SO excited!  You really have no idea.

And the other thing is......all week I've been thinking that 52 is the best age yet.

Blessings, dear friends!

October Note Card Party.....Cool Weather, Cozy Scenes

Thank you, Vee, for hosting the Note Card Party every month! My computer is giving me fits, so I'll type out the link to the delightful party, since the usual links haven't been working and I can't post the party button or the computer locks up.....

Visit Vee at http://ahavenforvee.blogspot.com for a delightful experience!

So let's get on with it!!!
An encore presentation of the dining room mantel dressed for fall.

The leaves have not turned much, and it's warm enough to soak up warmth on the sunporch!

 Sunflowers gifted by a friend.

A restored 18th century cottage (http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p150366) where Mister and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary.  And where there was a copy of One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp that I finally read.
With Mister coming around the side of the cottage.

Cozy, Comfy and delightful.
Perfect for this time of year!

Having a delightful day,
Carol

Late to the Party, We are Decked out for Fall

Dare I say it???!
I do.
Happy Fall, y'all!

This is what I have to deal with when decorating.  I usually do it in the afternoon, when the fellas are napping, though I didn't get away with it this time!
And here are my fall decorations.  All 3 of them.

The garland is the show stopper here.  It will stay on the mantel til January.  Further embellishments to be added as Thanksgiving transitions to the Christmas season.
The mantel was in place when we moved in.  I painted it and the trim white, and the faux fireplace opening a flat black.  Mister picked up the screen in his travels.

The li'l white pumpkin rests upon some old cookbooks in the kitchen.

And the spoon rest, well,  rests.

Look what I found at the Salvation Army shop yesterday!!!!
Mint. In. Box.
Instructions inside and all.
99 CENTS!  Terribly exciting!  It works perfectly.  It'll be out year round methinks.

So hoping this finds all of you in the midst of a great week.  All your fall decorating is beautiful!

Note Card Party.....September 2013

I stuck with photos from previous posts.  This set of note cards would have a NARROW market, and are self indulgent, I admit!  I would probably buy them all up, and frame them.  Mister might buy them and send them to me.
I'm calling them "Love o' My Life".

Yes.  This IS framed, on my desk.  We were at a wedding and the sunglasses were looking HOT.
A REAL man can hold a pair of rhinestone studded shoes and carry it off.

He says his favorite thing about me is my smile, but his sure is beautiful....

and he smiles at me....a LOT.

When we went to the Governor's Inaugural Ball a couple of years ago, I starved myself, exercised, you name it, to look good in my dress.  What did Mister do???  He bought a larger vest for his tux, and looked terrific.

No. Fair.

Thank you, Vee for hosting!  And indulging me.

Lots of News!

First of all,  I've gone back to work!  I am working with a TNR  program (Trap, Neuter, Release), where I spay and neuter feral (wild) cats.  Our foundation's plan is to reduce the feral cat population by 80% in south central PA over by 2022.  We have people that feed feral cat colonies on an ongoing and daily basis, so by providing the cats with good nutrition and preventing more kittens, we are making a big difference in the number of cats suffering very long, miserable, horrible deaths.  Plus the cats lead better healthier lives.  One colony caretaker has a male she has fed for 14 years!

It still seems like summer, even though the humidity is gone and the temps have temporarily cooled.  We are still soaking up the sun.  Glorious!

I've learned more about canning this summer, thanks to a Canning Forum on FB.  Lots of good and encouraging people.  That's refreshing!  These are mixed veggies for soups or stews.  On Friday, the garden harvest was a bit of this and a bit of that....so mixed veggies!  Exciting!

We've got canned rotel tomatoes, squash, green beans on the way to the basement.....

....tomatoes, salsa, summer squash, and jellies on a bookshelf........

...some pickled jalapenos, 2 kinds of salsa....

...and I'm working on filling up this bookcase as well!  I even shredded summer squash for bread and soups because I've got my freezer full of the same.
I find that canning is highly addictive, delicious, healthy and thrifty!

The season is changing, and I'm savoring every minute.

Wishing each of you a wonderful week!

Pictures, Links and Few Words

On Friday, Mister and I took a day trip. We started at The Green Dragon (http://www.greendragonmarket.com/index.php) in Ephrata, PA.  There is a local saying, "If you can't buy it at the Green Dragon, it chust ain't fer sale!"

That's pretty accurate.

It was extremely HOT and humid, and I didn't get pictures.  But there are plenty on the website.

Then we stopped at Lititz, and then on to Bube's Brewery.  (http://www.bubesbrewery.com/index.htm)  Bube's is an intact historic 19th century brewery and museum complex, offering fine dining in the Catacombs, Alois, Bottling Works.

We chose the Biergarten.  Best outdoor eating area we've encountered in PA!

Great garden ideas everywhere I looked.

My dining companion was delightful.

See the huge black open oven door?

Clearer shot of oven door.

Gorgeous sunlight-dappled trees overhead!

Chess!

Levels everywhere added to the ambiance.

(my links work well on my posts.....until I actually post them.  Not sure why, so I have entered them on the draft and then printed them out on the post.  If anyone knows why, lemmeno!  Thanks!)

Wishing you a glorious holiday!

More Miscellany

Not sure what's happened with my header....will have to address that! Anyway......

The pansies (see "header") were replaced with these ferns a few weeks ago.  I found them at WalMart. They were $5.48 apiece!!!!  Score!

We got a mushroom log last October.  This year we are growing mushrooms!

Shiitake, anyone???

The PeeGee hydrangea is in full bloom.  Always looks bridal to me.  Beautiful.

Late to the party!
The mop heads finished blooming months ago, as you can see in the background.  But then I noticed this bloom.  I'm okay with that!

I can never pull out a volunteer cleome.  So I just moved the geranium pots to accommodate this lovely.

We will be moving Chickie into the dorm tomorrow.  Here's a timely devotional from Jesus Calling that my sister brought to my attention, and it's been blessing many ever since!

Blessings and joy,

Carol
