Upstairs Porch Refinished, Re-furnished Too!

The upstairs porch off the master bedroom was re-stained, by moi, too.

It gets morning sun, and afternoon and evening shade.   Nice timing!

Feels like being in a treehouse, up here!

Got a little whimsy going on in this corner.

Looking down into my freshly mowed (by me!) back yard.  Tiny, and yet the right size for us!
I've since started a rock wall around the new bed in the upper left corner of the photo.  Found a source for free rocks, and I've a new pastime!

Hope your weekend is beautiful.......

Community Garden

The Community Garden Plot is thriving.  I've harvested peas and purslane and garlic scapes.
Expecting beans next week.

It is such a delight, even if lots of work (read exercise) to see the crops thriving.

I dug up some flagstones and laid a path at the entrance.

Delightful!

Keeping Busy!

I could show you a BEFORE picture of the porches, but who hasn't seen a tired looking, in-need-of-cleaning-and-restaining deck floor?

They've been scrubbed, 2 coats of stain applied, dried and re-furnished.

That's a white stain on the railing, folks!  I applied it a couple of years ago, and it has held up well.  Just needs the top scraped a bit and re-stained.  Next week, methinks.

The steps have never looked better.  I can line them with pots of plants again!

I spend many an hour out here in this retreat.....and take many a nap in the hammock swing!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Blooming by the House

The garden along the driveway side of the house is in full bloom.
In this garden, all I do is deadhead and clear out the excess Chinese lantern plants.  So low maintenance!
Later in the season, blooms will include 4 o'clocks, butterfly bush, great big hibiscus blooms, hydrangea, spiderwort, naked ladies, and old fashioned autumn blooming clematis which smells heavenly!

Allium,

Iris,

a spreading geranium (very invasive!).  There are even a couple of spiderwort blooms here and there.

And the poppies have bloomed in a riot of orange!

Wonderful.

How's your garden growing?

Where I Have Been, and How I Inadvertently Increased My Potential

Remember last year, when after 8 years on a waiting list I got my own community garden plot??!! It's 25'x50', and it was a mess. But so much fun work! So, this year, I had a bit of a head start, what with having tilled and worked it last year. But my tiller wouldn't start this year, so I dug the whole thing up by hand, and worked 2 big scoops of compost in it by hand. And here are the results.....

The day lilies and the spiderwort thrive in front of the little fence.  The screens will eventually be fashioned into a gate....unless I can find something I like to use as a gate, instead.

It's so exciting to watch things sprout.  There are tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, carrots, broccoli, peppers, lima beans, squash, corn, green beans, peas and zinnias.

Look at those potatoes in the background.  So green and leafy!  My first year for potatoes.

Closer up of the potatoes, some beans, garlic, carrots, broccoli.

And here is how I looked after several hours.  Filthy.  And so happy!

Where does the increased potential come in, you ask?

I've changed out my ride.  The Malibu in the background is sold, and has been replaced by the big-green-'95 -Dodge-Ram1500-SLT-V8-Laramie-short bed.

*squeal!!*

So I can load and haul the free compost and mulch from the borough to my heart's content.  I can shop the curb ANY day of the week.

Beyond delighted,

Carol (!)
